Jon Marks ELT/ESOL/EAL materials developer

I am an ELT materials developer with 25+ years experience. Clients past and present include BBC Worldwide, Bloomsbury, British Council, Cambridge University Press, Harper Collins, Klett, Open University (UK), Richmond Publishing, Scholastic.

I have written materials for a wide range of levels and applications of English, including General English for adult learners, Business English and IELTS. Most recently, my work has focused mainly on primary and secondary materials for domestic contexts, working within the framework of a national curriculum. This has included co-authoring textbooks used in secondary schools across Germany and projects for school-age learners (in and outside of formal education) in Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone.

I have well-developed design and image-sourcing/creation skills, plus extensive knowledge of the technical aspects of producing materials across print, online and audio-visual platforms. On some occasions I have also designed materials I have worked on, submitting a print-ready PDF.

Recent projects and publications

Major secondary course for Germany

Since 2011, for Klett Verlag I have been co-authoring multiple components of Green Line, a leading secondary course in use in state schools across Germany. As well as the core classroom textbooks, I have co-authored workbooks, readers, examination material and online activities.

Projects for Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone

Working for the International Development Office of the Open University (UK), I have been extensively involved in a number of projects for school-age learners, both in and outside of formal education. As well as producing learning materials, I have co-authored teacher professional development materials, including video-based training components.

Refugee camp learning materials

For the British Council, I created learning materials for school-age learners in camps for Syrian refugees for implementation by non-teacher volunteers.

IELTS publications

I have written three IELTS publications: IELTS Resource Pack and Practice Tests and IELTS Advantage Speaking and Listening Skills (both Delta Publishing, an imprint of Klett Verlag) and IELTS Writing Starter (Scholastic).
